BLOG NEW YORK CITY

Hello my name is Quentin and I will present you my last year trip to the "Big Apple".
I landed at JFKennedy airport.

To go from the airport to down town I had many solutions: the yellow taxis or the subway.
I took the Yellow taxi. I prefered these solution because I saw a part of New York during the ride.

1/ To sleep

For accomodation I chose the AirBnb system because it is a cheap hotel.

Remember to book early enough because "the city that never sleeps" attracts a lot of tourists and the hotels are filled well in advance.

2/ What I did in New York

Whether you are a fan of pedestrian walks, music lover or addicted to culture and art, passionate about architecture or history, sports fan, or fashion victim, New York will fulfill all your desires.

Walks:
During the year I walked  through the NY's five huge neighborhoods.  I walked from Manhattan to Brooklyn, Queens to the Bronx, and the famous Harlem. These different neighborhoods made me discover the history of NY through its colonial architecture (Chapel Saint-Paul ...), neo-Gothic (Trinity Church ...) or modern (skyscrapers ...).

I started my historic visit by Ellis Island (home of the first migrants), and I visited the Statue of Liberty but I didn't remember how many stairs there were to walk up. I took the ferry to go from Manhattan to Ellis Island.

I visited lot of museums:

- American Museum of Natural History

- MoMA (Museum of Modern Art)

In the MoMA I saw a green helicopter which was a home decoration. There were lot of  modern sculptures too.
Modern art is something that is difficult to understand but that has challenged me.

- Guggenheim museum (private painting collection)

- Ground Zero: memorial of the 11th september 2001

- Met museum (museum of art)

I couldn't  go to NY without going to support the local football teams (Giants), Basketball (Knicks) or Baseball (Yankees) at the meetic Yannkees Stadium. I bought a real american football helmet from the Giants.

Show:
I was on Broadway and Westside to see a musical comedy.

Shopping:
During the year I had to buy clothes and food for that I liked going on the 5th Avenue or to the Rockfeller Center.
After work I loved going for a walk in Central Park.

For me the most things you not have to miss in New York City are

- Statue of Liberty

- Skyscrapers as the Empire State Building or the Chrystler Building

- Rockfeller Center for shopping

- Ground Zero

- Central Park

- 5th Avenue

- Yankees Stadium

3/To end

I have to speak about some traditions in the USA:
The Americans being superstitious there is no 13th floor in the skyscrapers.
The TIP.
When you payed the bill the service is not included, so you have to give the TIP which is about 25 or 30% of the bill.
I had a very nice trip in New York City.
I stayed one year long but I'm sure I did not see it all.
